In Yorkshire and the Humber, building strong partnerships with our three Integrated Care Systems (ICSs) is our top priority. We have developed a unique approach to this via our Innovation Hub model to enhance collaboration and drive innovation. This approach was given as an example of best practice in the Hewitt Review and used as an exemplar case study by the NHS Accelerated Access Collaborative (AAC).

The hubs provide dedicated innovation support and a conduit through which innovators can engage with system colleagues in a managed and efficient manner. The creation of our hubs, South Yorkshire in 2019 and West Yorkshire in 2021, embody how this works in practice. The hub staff are part of Health Innovation Yorkshire & Humber team but are also integrated within each
system. Through this embedded model of working, the hubs foster the conditions needed to enable the rapid adoption and spread of innovation.

Our West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire Innovations Hubs play a pivotal role within each Integrated Care Board (ICB) by bringing together different organisations across the system to accelerate the widespread adoption of cutting-edge health and care innovations. This embedded, partnership approach enables the development of a deep understanding of priorities and unmet needs and co-production of the best solutions.

We have gone on to develop a couple of more specialised Innovation Hubs in Primary Care; one in West Yorkshire and another in Humber and North Yorkshire. Given their particular focus on primary care, they have been able to build deeper networks and relationships into a part of the health and care system that can be particularly complex for sharing and scaling innovation, and bring tailored innovations focused on primary care needs.
